Huddle goes big: web conferencing, iPhone app and Office integration have arrived
Posted on 30. Sep, 2009 by Zuzanna in Announcements, New Features
… plus we’re knocking on your door, America!
What an awesome day today at Huddle.net! Not only we have launched web conferencing, iPhone app and integrated Huddle with Microsoft office, but we also signed up more than 900 partners in the US who will be offering Huddle on our behalf.
It’s official: Huddle is now THE single place to get everything done: all communication, collaboration and project management tools are there, all nicely integrated. You can now access Huddle online, on the go and on your desktop!.
Combine this with our plans to open Huddle.net’s office in San Francisco in a few months time and a super secret partnership with one of the largest tech companies in the world and you can understand why we are so excited!

So, here’s what’s new:
Free web conferencing – only in Huddle
Our new web conferencing is fully integrated into Huddle meetings; you can set up ad-hoc meetings, schedule recurring events, and easily share your desktop and content with other members of your workspace.
Conferencing minutes are included as part of your monthly package and you can easily upgrade to unlimited conferencing and multiple concurrent rooms at the lowest price currently available on the market. This feature is launching today to out enterprise customers, and rolling out to all our premium packages over the next few weeks.
Huddle on the iPhone
The Huddle iPhone app offers full access to document sharing, project tasks, discussions and whiteboards, as well as a complete view of the user’s personalized dashboard. You can get it from the Apple App Store now! Also check out other great 3rd party applications available for Huddle here.
Microsoft Office integration
With the arrival of Huddle’s Office plug-in, you can now access your Huddle files directly from within Microsoft Office. This great new tool lets you save your local files directly into Huddle with one click, view and edit files, add new versions, request approvals and send notifications without going near a browser! We’ve already shared Huddle’s office plug-in with our beta testers – watch this space for instructions on how to get your own in early October.
For more Huddle apps and extras, visit the Huddle apps page!
More new features and good news to follow soon! Have you got feedback about the new features or something else you’d love to see in Huddle? Let us know at http://huddle.uservoice.com

Good news re. IPhone integration but why not make iPod Touch friendly too. I was told that I could not download it as I did not have a microphone… 90%+ of Huddle functionality does not require a mic?

Just downloaded the iPhone app. Looks great. Any chance the next version will include a quick/easy way to add a task? For me that would be a great benefit. I am constantly waking up in the middle of the night and remembering something to add to our to-do list, and being able to quick add a task (and notify) would be key (and worth a few bucks in my mind). Great job!

@Russell – We tested the app on the iPod Touch (1st and 2nd gen) before submitting the app to Apple so that is definitely a bug. I’ll escalate it to the dev team and see how soon we can resubmit a fix.
@Marc – this is just our first version! We will absolutely be adding the ability to create a task, notify users and a host of other features over the next several months!

@Russell – we have traced the problem to a configuration setting in the app store. This has been corrected but may take a while to propagate out to all the international app stores so please try again soon!

I’m playing with the app on my iPod, and it tells me I can’t add a comment to a discussion. Is this because it hasn’t been coded yet, or because I’m using the free version of Huddle?

Just downloaded the iPhone app on iPod Touch. Seems to be downloading ok now. App looks great – promising functionality, Tried to respond to some on-going discussions and was told i needed to upgrade to “…the Full version” – the full version of what? I can only see one app in the app store. Just being able to read project status etc. could be done using RSS feed, so it would be handy if the app would allow interactive use. Anyway, as said earlier, it looks promising….great job!!

Got it – but not letting me sign in? “Invalid login – Your log in details are not valid”. Though the same details get me into the browser version…

I seem to be able to create a meeting & invite people OK but no meeting start button appears.
Is the new Web conference function available on the free version, or is it only a premium feature?

@Hugh – not rolled out to free yet. In the next week or so. Sorry, Hugh!

Steve, Ray – this is our first version. We’re working on additional functionality as we speak, so if you can’t do something at the moment it’s most likely because this features hasn’t gone live yet. Bear with us!

@Zuzanna – Sorted it out. Online one can log on with User name or email. On the App one must use the User name.

no probs. might I suggest you should treat this as a Beta (like you did with the office app) and get people to test it and help find and point out all the little niggles like these. After all, it IS a free app, and that is great. Its just that the more demanding amongst us sort of expect that the disabled (or not yet available) features would be tied up a bit better i.e. you just shouldn’t let users get there (simple UI/UX rules). We’re here to help make it better

I cannot seem to login either, my creds are correct for the desktop version but do not work on the iPhone version, I have: “Invalid login – Your log in details are not valid”.
It is a bit disappointing for an app launch!

@Nicolas Have you tried to log in with your email address or your username? Log in with your username and it should work. See @Russell’s comment.

@Zuzanna I tried to login with both, neither my registered email address nor my Display Name (from the profile setting) seem to work.
Many thanks for your assistance

Any update on when the office app will be available. Expectations are killing me.

Hi Richard – We’re currently in a limited beta to make sure we iron out all the kinks. We’ll be rolling it out to all our users in beta state in a few weeks time!
