Living the dream - life at a start-up
Friday, June 13, 2008
Last week, Microsoft asked me to give a talk to a couple of hundred students (finalists at the Microsoft Imagine Cup and budding entrepreneurs) about why they might like to forsake the financial security of a proper job (accountant, lawyer, dead-eyed IT consultant etc) and think about starting their own business instead.
This was a lot of fun and gave me the opportunity to distill Huddle’s history into a few slides and think about a few pearls of wisdom that I would pass along to any budding (web) entrepreneurs. This turned into 20 lessons we’d learnt (sometimes the hard way) along the way to where we are today. I’m sure in a year’s time there will be 20 more :)
Some of the slides probably require a little clarification (court?!) but it should make some sense. The ideas for a few of the lessons came from other entrepreneurs like Jason Calacanis (of Mahalo.com) and Loic Le Meur (of Seesmic.com)
